DARWIN: An eight-year-old boy who died within minutes of being stung by a box jellyfish at Melville Island, north of Darwin, on Monday is thought to have dived into the stinger while swimming.

A post-mortem examination yesterday afternoon concluded that Jarrod Burak, from Garden Point, Melville Island, had sting marks to the left side of his face, neck, shoulder and arm.

Police say the boy had climbed into a dinghy a few metres offshore at Garden Point and jumped into the water.
