Stinger Wins A Holiday

CAULFIELD trainer Jim Kennedy will resist the temptation to start yesterday's Niddrie Handicap winner, Bay Stinger, in the Blue Diamond Stakes.

Kennedy, who already boasts a smart lineup of two-year-olds, said Bay Stinger would be reserved for the National Stakes in Adelaide next May.

"His work was good during the week but not as good as some two-year-olds I've had that have come out and won on the Saturday," Kennedy said.

"But I think there is plenty of scope in him and in fact I'll probably back off him a little now because he's got plenty of growing to do."

Bay Stinger was a drifter in the market, blowing from 8-1 out to 10-1 and held on to beat Tobin Gold (5-1) with Simplex, an amazing drifter from 9-2 out to 10-1, in third position.

Just 40 minutes later, the families of jockey Michael Clarke and Alan Burton were celebrating with the success of Sir Fawn in the Magdala Handicap.

Sir Fawn is trained by Alan Burton, who is leading jockey Michael Clarke's father-in-law. Michael's wife, Natasha, is also a part owner of the six-year-old.

Starting at 3-1, Sir Fawn was confidently backed in from 4-1 to beat the 13-4 hope Withita.
